For the Love of Burlap

As I sit in class, I thought I’d go ahead and tell you about the newest addition to my home – my burlap wreath! This past fall I saw them all over the web. Here are a few that I loved:

I decided to make mine similar to the first two above. It was SO easy! I bought 2 yards of burlap from JoAnn’s with the intention of making this wreath and some placemats for my dining room table. I was going to start with the wreath, so I cut 1 yard of it into four inch strips. I then took a wire clothes hanger and bent it into a circle. At this point all you have to do is fold the strips and push it onto the hanger. When I started I was doing a straight accordion fold, but I didn’t really like the way that looked, so I took it all off and restarted doing a messy accordion fold with twists and turns so that sometimes the fold was facing out and sometimes the cut edges were facing out. When I had used that yard, I realized that I wanted a much fuller and tighter wreath so I went ahead and cut up the other yard and used it, too. Here is my (sort-of) final product:

I safety-pinned  some little red and white rosettes to the bottom. I really love that I can change the total look of these wreath by adding and changing the embellishments. As you can tell, the weight of the wreath pulled it into an oval. I didn’t really notice that until I was looking through these pictures, so I have since fixed that by adding a little bit of a bend on the sides. I also switched out the ribbon that is holding it up to a thick, white linen ribbon. Hopefully this year-round wreath adds a little bit of cheer to my boring front door!

Do you like the idea of year-round wreaths or do you think that wreaths should always be green and only be seen in December? Do you have a favorite wreath that you display? I’d love to hear all about it!

Project Life Pics: Week 7

Sunday, February 13: The mileage on my trip setting when I pulled into the driveway on my ride home from Joseph’s.

Monday, February 14: A screenshot of the Facebook Valentine’s posts that Joseph and I sent each other. Aren’t we precious?

Tuesday, February 15: The visitor I found in my empty kitchen trashcan (at this point, I didn’t know I would be finding one of his brothers the next night….)

Wednesday, February 16: My wonderfully amazing bed.

Thursday, February 17: A slipcovered chair with some fabric I bought at IKEA (please ignore the big pile of stuff on my kitchen counter… Thanks.)

Friday, February 18: Opening game for NCSU baseball season! This is my friend Danny at bat!

Saturday, February 19: The burlap wreath I made for my front door. More details on this project coming soon!

I knew I would eventually fall behind and miss posting these on a Monday. Now that it has finally happened, I hope that it won’t be a recurring problem. I just have my fingers in a few too many pots right now. So while that means that this post was late, it also means that sometime soon you can expect the burlap wreath post, a project involving that red and white fabric from IKEA, and another project for my bathroom. So while I haven’t been working on the blog, I’ve been doing projects that I am going to blog about… does that make up for it any at all?!?!?!

HomeGoods StyleScope Quiz

We all know by now that I like decorating things. I have lots of big ideas for my house, but very little money and time to make those ideas become reality. Still, I really enjoy looking into my personal style and likes. I ran across this quiz the other day in a super old blog post over at Young House Love. Since I love HomeGoods, I just knew it would describe me and my sense of style perfectly… I think it was right on!

Here are my results:

So head on over and take the quiz yourself… then come back and tell me about it! Does your result make sense? Do we share this Earthy Casual style?
