One Little Word 2011

For any of you that follow Ali Edwards, the concept of “One Little Word” is not a new one. Here are snippets of what Ali said about One Little Word back when she introduced the idea in 2007:

A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow.

It can be something tangible or intangible. It could be a thought or a feeling or an emotion. It can be singular or plural. The key is to find something that has personal meaning for you. This is not your mother’s word or your spouse’s word or your child’s word – this is YOUR word.

One little word can have big meaning in your life if you allow yourself to be open to the possibilities. And here’s one thing that is totally interesting: sometimes a word will pop into your brain and it will not make any sense to you right now. Give it some time. Let it percolate a bit. I have often found that our hearts speak to us in very unique ways. Maybe this is a word you need to hear but just aren’t ready for it yet. Again, be open to the possibilities.

Last year I chose two words (I can be really indecisive sometimes): change and celebrate. I wanted to learn to accept change and celebrate everything that I have. Who knew that one of those words would come to define 2010 in a totally new way for me. This past year was all about change, and I’m so glad that I had already picked that word as a focus for the year. For the past few weeks I have been pondering what word I will focus on in 2011 (yes, this year I am forcing myself to pick one word) and I finally have narrowed it down.

My word for 2011 is PRESERVE. We will see where it takes me over the course of a year. I put this little note about my word in an altered book-binder that I made last year and hopefully I will continue to add more things to it as the word PRESERVE becomes more of a part of my life. I have some ideas about how I will focus on it… others will have to come with time.

If you are interested in taking this journey with me, read check out Ali’s post on her One Little Word for this year and then pick your own! See where it takes you! Please leave a comment if you want to share your word for this year; I am sure it will come to inspire you in many ways!

Great end to the season…

One thing you will get to know about me is that I am a huge Wolfpack fan! My two loves are football and baseball so I am always ready to watch a game during those seasons. Tonight our boys played in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, Florida and brought home the win! Since we couldn’t make the trip to see it in person, Joseph and I had a mini-“bowl party” at his house. (Party being loosely defined here – it consisted of me and him watching the game and eating some cake.) For this little party, I made a NCSU cake using my new cake pan that Joseph gave me for Christmas. I love it! The cake turned out super cute, though far from perfect, and was the perfect dessert for our celebration! Hopefully this is just the start of something amazing for Wolfpack football! GO PACK!

Hello world!

I kept the title that is the default for the first entry of WordPress blogs – I thought it was appropriate. I decided to start a new blog with a better host in hopes that I will actually keep it current and updated. So thanks for making the move with me. If you want to know what to expect from reading this little website, check out the “Welcome!” page. Hopefully we’ll have fun together on this journey through my life.

I’ll leave with a picture of my Christmas tree:
